Kennedy Wangari is a highly skilled Data Scientist, Developer Advocate, and UN-Habitat Youth Advisory Board Member with over 1.36 years of relevant experience. He is currently working as a Technology Consultant (AI & Analytics) at UNEP-WCMC, where he is responsible for data analysis, collection, and QA/QC on a variety of projects focusing on biodiversity, marine habitats, and protected areas. He is mainly working on the Protected Planet and Ocean+ initiatives and using remote sensing in combination with in situ data for conservation and restoration outcomes. Kennedy is a Certified Google Cloud Professional Machine Learning Engineer with a rich background and expertise in data product management, business intelligence, data science, machine learning, and software engineering. He has a Bachelor's degree in Information Technology with a specialization in Artificial Intelligence (Data Science, Deep Learning, and Machine Learning) from Jomo Kenyatta University of Agriculture and Technology. He is also an incoming MSc. AI Candidate at the University of Edinburgh. Kennedy is passionate about blending industry and functional expertise to deliver high-impact data science services. He has helped startups, small to large enterprise Fortune 500 companies harmonize the power of their data and people, absorb complexity, transmit clarity, see further, and innovate faster. He has been recognized globally as a top expert in data science on dozens of lists over the last 3 years. Coursera, Deeplearning.AI, Oracle Africa, Dr. Andrew Ng, and the Ministry of Education (Kenya) have feted Kennedy for his advocacy efforts and contributions in increasing the participation, inclusivity, representation, and diversity of the black people in the data field. Kennedy is also passionate about helping bridge the technology skills gap for the underserved talents in Kenya and globally. Through the Deeplearning.AI Nairobi Community, he has spearheaded partnerships and collaborations with NVIDIA, Udacity, Coursera, PACKT, and Datacamp. He has developed initiatives and tailored programs that drive greater inclusion and diversity in the data science field through providing free data educational and professional opportunities to over 9,000+ highly deserving Kenyans and the black community at large.
